Linden Research, Inc., maker of the Second Life virtual world system, recently released the source code for the program users use to display the virtual world as open source code, meaning that anyone with the requisite skill and knowledge can acquire the code and make their own modifications to it, and if they wish give the modifications to Linden Research for consideration for use in upcoming releases of the official Linden version of the viewer. For more info, check out the secondlife.com website, particularly the wiki at wiki.secondlife.com, and the opensecondlife.org website.
