Changing your profile Picture

If you feel almost totally lost on how to set up your profile, this is the room for you. I certainly understand how easy it is to feel lost on getting started setting up a website. Take heart though, because Kaneva has made some video tutorials which will help make the task much easier.

When you first came into this world you signed up and filled out a form with a lot of information about yourself and came into the site with a basicly blank Gray profile page. Some of you simply say NOW WHAT? I don't know where to start.and if that is you lets take a look at the Changing your main profile picture video.(click the blue link)

I realize that he was using a Mac Computer when they made that video, but the import thing is that when you hit the change picture link it will open the window that shows you the browse button, and when you click on it, using a windows computer, the box which lets you look through the pictures on your computer will look different. You will still be able to look through your pictures and choose one to add to your profile.

Uploading Media

Why is uploading media important? Media includes your pictures, music, videos etc which you have on your computer, but would like to be able to let others enjoy the also. So what you would like to have the friends you make here be able to see, hear, or enjoy in some other way; need to be uploaded to the servers here on the Kaneva site.

I can hear some of you asking, how do I get my pictures, videos, and music uploaded onto the server. Lets take a look at another video, called Uploading Media. (click the blue link)

O.K. I know that the box to upload file has changed, and that is so you can upload up to 5 files at a time. I will try to explain how that is done. When you click the upload media button, another window will open that has two sides. On the left side of that window you will find a browse button. When you click on that button it will open a window from your computer which will allow you to look for the file you wish to upload. When you find the file and click ok... that file's location will be in the space beside the browse button, and part of the other information will also be filled in. You will need to fill in the title of the file if you want it different than what it is called on you computer. then use the drop down menue to select a category which most closely fits for the file.

Now comes the tag or keywords, and that can be a little tricky. Tags are words that help the search engine find things easier. You want to try to use single words, but you can use more than one description. say you have a picture of a barge being pushed down the river by a tow boat. Tags for that picture might be the words: barge, boat, tug, and river; anyone looking for a picture of any one of those words could find that picture listed in their search. I said this one can be a little tricky and here is why; that page says you need to separate those words with a space... not a comma, but a space. You can not use anything except letters or numbers in that tags/keyword blank; no apostrophe, commas, semi-colons, colons, or any other symbols.

Next come the brief Description. That you can use anything in. It is just to let you know it when you see the description. Then you choose to make the file public or private and if it needs to be restricted. Alright you have all the information on that file filled out, so you look toward the top center part of that window and you will see a bar that says add to list. Click that and if you have everything filled out correctly... it will show up in the right hand side of that window. If you want to upload more than that one file... you go back to the left side and click browse again and find another..... when you reach the maximum of 5 files... you check the agree to Kaneva Terms & Conditions and click upload media.

Displaying Multiple Photos

Now you have uploaded all the media you think you want to have on Kaneva, so you will need to know how to display all those pictures, videos, and music. We will begin by learning how to Displaying Multiple photos. .(click the blue link)

That seems easy enough, but you may want to watch it again a couple of times. You now know how to display all your pictures in one multiple picture box, but do you really want to display them all in one place. Of course not! Lets learn how to divide them into different groups called play lists. To divide your uploads into groups lets take a look at My Media Uploads. .(click the blue link)

You may want to watch this one a couple times; then give it a try and see if you can group your files into some play lists you would like them to be presented. If you have trouble with this we will go over it in Jr. High. Please look at the top or the bottom of this page... there are navigation bars with the "schools" listed. Just click on the one you care to attend.
