Lightning

Although she has forgotten her real name, she is known by the codename "Lightning". Square-Enix at first announced she probably wouldn't be the main character of Final Fantasy XIII in an interview with Gemaga. However, sometime afterwards she was confirmed to be the protagonist of the game. With energetic ariel and magical attacks she is a formidable fighter and a valuable force to have control of. Her relationship with the other characters we've seen is unclear but she appears to be on the same side as Snow's.

Background
Very little information is known out about Lightning yet but Square-Enix has revealed that the two yellow stripes on the her left shoulder symbolise her Rank and Social status. This could mean she is or was a soldier at some point. Her armour also shows that she is some kind of combatant as seen in the E3 2006 trailer when she is fighting enemy soldiers.. Lightning's past is unclear at the moment because she is suffering from some form of amnesia.

Gravity Control
One of Lightning's special abilities is to control gravity. This is the reason why her fighting is so energetic and agile. We're predicting she controls it by using the buttons on her finger tip and thumb, possibly clicking them together. It might only be an ability she can perform while in Overclock mode as the gameplay in the trailer suggests.

Snow Villiers

An unknown man was revealed at the end of the Jump Festa 2006 trailer. Almost nothing is known about him except his shoe size is 33cm which means he's a pretty tall guy. He appeared in the trailer riding in on a motorcycle when Lightning was surrounded by soldiers. His relationship with Lightning is unclear but Toriyama has described it as "unique" and it's unclear if the unknown man is an ally or an enemy. He is also described as having a funny style of fighting.

Background
This man (nicknamed by fans on account of his shoe size), has had very little information revealed about his past. What we do know however is that he controls the Shiva sisters which is evident from his ability to ride them in their motorcycle form. It has also been confirmed that he is a Lusi, sent on a mission by the Farsi.

Unknown

This new female character was revealed in the Tokyo Game Show 2007 trailer, shown in the Closed Mega Theatre. Her picture was first shown in the January 2008 V-Jump scans. In the trailer she was seen standing on a cliff watching the sphere in the sky fall apart. CD like discs began to fall out of the sky, one of which she caught and turned into the summon Carbuncle. No further background information is known about her character yet.

Background
The pig-tailed-girl, like Mr 33cm has no confirmed name so far. She has no background so far but she has also been confirmed to be a Lusi, working for the Farsi. It is unclear whether her and Mr 33cm are working together.
