Quickly How To.... By Hypatia_Theron
Here's the basics:

On the Kaneva website, click on the Virtual World link at the top of the page

Click on the Shopping link on the left

Click on the shirt in the Create My Own Stuff box

Click on the Get Started link

Download the templates in jpg format (heard there were issues with the PSD formats but even if there are not, I still use the jpgs)

Open the template using Windows Paint or, if you have it and know how to use it, Photoshop or some other type program

The templates are obviously templates of whatever it is - a shirt for instance.

Past the texture on the template. When you do, the template will be covered.

Save the template as another name.

Back on the website, go to My Merchandise (also in shopping)

Upload your changed template.

Give it a name, enter how much you wish to make from the sale of one item.

(This amount will be added to *** credits - which I'm guessing is Kaneva's take.)

Upload a jpg of the design

BUT NOT THE ACTUALLY TEMPLATE - PEOPLE WILL STEAL YOUR DESIGNS IF YOU DO THAT.

(I usually upload a jpg of the texture I pasted on the template.)

Save it.

Go to My Merchandise and select Try to try own your item.

See if you like the way it looks.
(Even take a picture of your wearing it to upload as a picture of item.)

If you like it, you must buy it to have it (like all others).

If you don't, delete it, tweak the pattern and upload it again (and again, and again)

Hope this helps.

LISTING FEE

When going to price an item to sell in the MGC
(Member Generated Content) system
remember that three cost points are involved:

Base Price of the item

Designer Fee

Listing Fee

Right now the base price of the item depends
on which template you plan to purchase.
Each template has a base price assigned to it.

The Designer fee is how much you want to
make when you sell each item to a Kaneva
member.
The Listing fee is 10% of base price +
the designer fee.

Here is an example:

Base price:  150 Credits

Designer fee:  100 Credits

Listing fee: 25 Credits (150+100=250x10%=25)

----------------------------------------------

Total cost to the consumer  275 Credits

So keep this in mind when you go to price
items and when you look to see how much
you have earned in sales.  In the above
example, a member would spend 275
Credits to purchase your item and you
would make 100 Credits from the sale

How to use MGC (Member Generated Content)
How to use MGC (Member Generated Content)

Here is a quick tour of the Member Generated Content process
for uploading your own textures to apply and sell on Kaneva items.

To get to the MGC page go to shop.kaneva.com and select
"Create My Own Stuff" option
.

Next click the Get Started option

Next you will need to decide which template you plan
to design and upload a texture.  Currently there are
four choices but more and more choices will be added
as Kaneva continues to grow.

UPDATE OF TEMPLATES LOOK ABOVE

Using either the JPG or PSD format (we recommend saving
the basic texture first) you will want to change the color
and pattern using a 2D paint program (like Microsoft Paint,
SmartDraw, or Photoshop).

DO NOT resize the texture template, or you will not be
able to upload it.

Once you are done creating a design on the texture,
you will need to save the texture as a JPG format.

Once it is saved, you will want to upload it to the
Kaneva site.  Click on the My Store button.

 Then select Add New Item

Next you will need to name your item.

Then upload your texture by clicking the browse
button and select the item from your documents.
Select what type it is and a thumbnail image of
the item to help members (and yourself) get an
idea of what you are selling.

Next you will need to add a price to the item.
This will be how many credits you wish to charge
other players for buying your item.  If you want to
buy one for yourself first, be sure to set the price
at the minimum.  You can always go back and raise
the price later.  For each item there is a base cost,
a designer fee and a listing price that equals the total
cost of the item.  The listing fee will be 10% of the base
cost plus the designer fee.  The base cost and listing fee
go to Kaneva while you as the designer, keep the designer
fee.
THE WHOLE LIST PRICE IS IS ABOVE

Next you will want to add a tag and description to the item.
This helps other Kaneva members search for your designs by
keywords.  Also, if a design you upload would normally be
restricted to those 18+ years and above because of content,
you will want to set the item to Access Pass wear only.

WE NOW HAVE THE NEW FIG LEAF
WHERE TO SEE IF NEED TO BE
ACCESS OR NOT
.

Once you enter the price you can add the item or cancel it.

Next you will need to agree to Kaneva's Term of Service
before the upload process can continue.  With this you
agree that the design you are uploading is your own, is
not the copyrighted material of another person or
company and meets the Kaneva Rules of Conduct
guidelines for material.

You can then go back anytime and by using the My
Merchandise option, change things with your item
(except the Access Pass setting which cannot be
turned off) if you want to change the price, name,
tags, description, etc.  You can also check your
sales of the item, always a plus for new sellers.

For sales, please remember that the Total Sales
column shows how much other Kaneva members
have paid in Credits for your item, while the Credits
Earned column shows how much you have earned,
total, from the designer fee for each individual item.

You can also see how your item, and any other
items, look in the world by selecting the Try
it before you Buy it option.  This gives you 5
minutes in the 3D world to decide if the clothing
item or asset is what you want.  At the end of
the 5 minutes you will get a window that appears
that asks if you want to buy it or not.  If you do
not, the item disappears.  If you do, it appears in
your inventory.

Copyrighted Clothing
COPYRIGHTING copyrighted clothing
Rules on uploading User Generated Content Here are some rules on what you can and cannot add with the User Generated Content textures.
* You cannot use the Kaneva logo, it is copyrighted.
* You CAN use the word Kaneva.
* No images of naked bodies or naked body parts whatsoever.
* No curse words.
* No racial slurs or other Rules of Conduct violations.
* Anything that would normally be restricted when uploaded must be set to Access Pass wear only. If we deem something to need to be restricted we will set it to Access Pass wear only and send you a message indicating we did so.
* No copyright or intellectual property violations. If you want to upload something of your own design, we HIGHLY recommend that you copyright it when you do. There are a number of free copyright sites out there for you to do this. This site is an example: http://myfreecopyright.com/ If someone does copy what something you have copyrighted there is a DMCA form you can file out (this all has to be done in a legal manner) to report them and request the item be removed. You can find the form at this link. Copyright infringements need to be reported by the copyright/trademark/ intellectual property owner for us to take action. So be sure to copyright your OWN work before submitting it, and if someone else copies what you originally created, use the Support Center to send in a request to have the item removed. You will need to fill out a DMCA form stating, in legal terms, that you are the creator/owner of the original design. Default Fig Leaf Overlays for the Designer Catalog

While the fig leaf overlays for what is appropriate and what should be marked AP exist on the PSD files of the templates on the Designer Catalog, due to an oversight the JPGs did not get the overlays.

Here are the female fig leaf overlays for the current templates.
