ah the 70's for those who lived it you will remember for those that didn't you missed an awesome time period.
the draft ended, women got the right to vote and many other rights the never had before,a thing called motown sound was born give black artist the biggest break in music they ever had before, disco was born paving the way for many artist and was the breeding ground for much of the music and sounds of todays music, many bands either started using or invented new insturments to produce new sounds and learned how to make new sounds with already existing inturments, cruzing was reborn original came about in the 50's and was reborn in the 70's,the cb craze swept america,KISS made it into the big time by opening for blue oyster cult and 1 year to the day blue oyster cult was opening for them,by 79 KISS was the most popular band of all.
Blondie introduced the first known rap song rapture delight in a disco format,
the 70's was also the end of the muscle car era government decided they were causing too much pollution and car manufactures had to retool and change much of how they built cars.
on cruise night in my town anyway you had to have at least one race before you went home,we had what we called a safe area where we had watchers at a 2 mile area 1 on both ends making sure no traffic was coming and no side streets this road was straight and flat so it was perfect all it needed was lights lol.it didn't matter if you won or lost as long as you ran.it was run what you brung.
The 70's was a time of recreating much of what the 50's were and modifing it from the music to crusing to the cars.the 70's could not have happened if not for the 50's and 60's not because of the time frame but things that were introduced during those times just like the 80's and 90's never would have been what they were without the 70's.
by the end of the disco era many artist and bands ended their careers and never heard from again,on band in particular that everyone thought had vanished was KC and the Sunshine band after lead singer KC was in a car accident and couldn't perform, but he did make a come back in the early 90's,a few pounds heavier and a few years older but he still hadn't lost his touch,he could still do his dance and his sound.
sometime in the early 70's a 60's rock star reemerged trying to make a comeback after a terrible car accident that left him crippled on his left side,Jan Berry of Jan and Dean with the help of the beach boys he had tried(with the advice of the beach boys)to play his recorde music and stand up lip syncing, but then the tape player messed up he was then called a fraud his fans never knew about his wreck.wanting to be in front of an audience once again he stood up and told what had happened and that he couldn't talk well even after something like 7 years of therapy and said because i don't wish for you to feel cheated i will try to sing for you.and he and dean got up he started singing one his his hardest for him to do songs dean was shocked to watch him attempt within a few seconds he was able to do his thing just minus his dance, his sound was back.that was (to my knowledge)his last performance.there was a lot of irony to his wreck 3 years earlier he had released a song called "dead man's curve"about a race between a stingray and a jaguar.he crashed on deadman's curve in a 63 stingray in 66,not during a race but during a temper tantrum that almost not only nearly ended his career but came in inches of ending his life.
The 70's was NOT a dull time new business emerged with disco tech ,new clothing lines opened up, the clothes we wore were not avaiable before in any other time period satin shirts for men came out and let me tell you those things lasted forever, my disco shirts that were purchased new in 77 were still in great shape in 92 and i wore them all the time.they still looked new.bell bottom pants kinda faded for the new look which i really don't know how to describe.new hair styles came about for both men and women.
disco music almost closed the generation gap most of the parents actually liked the sound which is just unheard of lol.seeing as how parents nearly always hate the music their children listen to.the hiar was a whole different story it caused many arguments between fathers and sons.the crew cuts and flat tops of their time gave way to much longer styles.the hair style for men in the 70's paved the way for big hair bands, they just modified them a little lol ok a lot.
Kiss paved the way with their makeup and costumes making it popular for other bands to copy sort of as long as they didn't look enough like them for a copyright violation.
in 76 Kiss member Ace Frehley paid a cool million for a diamond ring that spelled out Ace.
it was the time of 50 cent gasoline and 10 bucks got you gas,a meal and a movie for both you and your date.direin movie theaters gained much popularity for so many various reasons, one of the biggest things they had going was $3 a car load night, you could load a pickup with 20 of your buddies and get all in for only $3.if you were smart you brought a cooler of food and drink because the concession stand prices were extremely expensive for that time period, like $1 for a hot dog,you could go to a 7-11 and get 4 for that price.lol.the drive in was a lot better way then the sit down because not only was admission much cheaper, you had much more freedom to do what you wanted,i would tell more but much of what happened isn't for everyones eyes lol.
another cool thing about the 70's is you could smoke absolutely anywhere you went except for inside the church house,go to walmarts shop and light up whenever you wanted,go to McDonalds and smoke a lot less restrictions,on the other side i do understand why places like walmart banned smoking, the smell would get into the clothes and offend a large portion of their customers who were non smokers, but that is the only one i can see and they were the first to have a public ban.
all in all if i had the ability to pick any time period in history to go back to i would pick the 70's.
