Grow Up

      I do not care what happens to me, if I get pulled, deleted from everyones profiles, doesn't matter or affect me. What I care about is that you hear me out if you are reading this. I'm posting this because the video that sits above it, at roughly 3 minutes in, shows too what is too commonly the reaction of someone serving now. Those who speak out against the war call it a murder of our younger generation, yada yada, and i know this i have said the same things. But I grew up, opened my eyes. I ask that you do the same if you have not already.
     For the past 35 years, our military has been entirely volunteer. Save for Vietnam, where we had to implement the draft, everyone who has served in a conflict has done so willingly. You may claim that you are afraid for them. What, and you don't think they aren't afraid? You think that, upon signing on the dotted line on those recruiting forms, they don't know that they are putting themselves on the line as well? They do, and they do so willingly. Why? Because they know that if they don't, fewer and fewer will. We will have to go back to the draft, which in modern times will not work period. They subconsciously know that if they don't sign, terrorists win. They know that if they don't sign, 9/11 will be a regular occurrence. They know that if they don't swollow that little bit of fear that they have and sign, then the whole country will live in an even greater fear as we will have no military, no protection, against the enemy multitudes of enemy threats out there.
     And also, why is that the general publics' oppinions of veterans are "whoop-dee you fought, good for you"? Do you have a clue what they went through? Only what CNN or your other news source says, right? My point is, everyone serving in our armed forces is a hero. No matter what they do, whether they're sailing on aircraft carriers, serving as customs for commercial barges, flying satellites or patrolling in Baghdad, everything they do keep out country safer. Every single one of us owes some debt to them, even if it be a simple expression of gratitude. So please, spend today honoring not only our independence, but what it took to gain that independence, and keep it secure.
