Ride the Iron Road

For the past two weeks, we've had a film crew residing in the Residence & Conference Centre where I work. They're filming a mini-series for the Canadian Broadcast System (CBS). It's called "Iron Road", and I'm gathering it's about the building of the Trans-Canada Railway that both Canadian Pacific Railways, and Canadian National Railways uses.

It's been fun so far, about 4:00 AM, the place starts to go nuts. The lobby fills up with a hoard of Asians (playing Chinese Immigrant Workers that were used to build the railroad), and White Guys Imitating Horrid Irish Accents (other Immigrant Workers on the railroad), jibbering and jabbering about the upcoming day's filming. Prior to this, however, I was busy getting the Continental Breakfast ready for them, so they can eat at 4:30 AM. Bagels, cereal, apples, oranges, frozen waffles, omelettes, english muffins, bread, juice, coffee- regular and decaf, hot water, hot chocolate, plates, cups, cutlerly, etc.

At 4:30 AM, like a fine tuned mob, they converge on the Breakfast Room and begin their attack on their hunger. All they while, they continue to discuss the rigours of their schedule, etc. About ten extras have quit because they can't handle the stress... or they just want to sleep in to a human hour of the day.

By 5:00 AM, they line up in the lobby to be checked off the list by the Casting Director and shuffle out with a bagle in their teeth to the waiting shuttle bus that will take them to where they're filming for the day. As they file out, they all wave, and thank me for the wonderful service that I- and the Residence & Conference Centre each morning.

The last person exits at 5:30 AM... and the place seems awfully quiet and dull suddenly... lonely even.

I'm going to miss the Iron Road crew when they're finished.

But I know I'll be able to see my new Friends on TV when the mini-series comes out. When I find out the dates the series will be aired, I'll let everyone here know, so you can say, "My Kaneva Friend worked at the Residence & Conference Centre where these actors stayed!"

I'll be famous for that alone... Hehehe

My Artwork

I've just added this page to showcase my artwork. I'm not sure if I'll be rotating the artwork every now and then, or just adding more to the page... or eventually converting them to slide shows... or even doing a combination of all of the above.

I'll try to post a bit about each piece I add- if I can remember details about how I came about doing them. LOL

Well, the first on- Abstracted Woman- Abstracted Thoughts was done from a picture I found on a website showcasing Single Russian Women. I liked the hat that she was wearing in the picture (though I'm not altogether sure you can see it clearly now- Hehehe). I also liked the somewhat "distracted" look she had, and I started fiddling with the picture until not only did it look like she was abstracted thought-wise... but that her distraction had made her a little abstract as well.

Tea Time is also based on a picture I found on the web... actually the same site as Abstracted Woman- Abstracted Thoughts. I just used my software program to soften, smudge and water down the details until it looked like a water colour painting. I like how it still has a touch of sensuality to it... of course, that could simply be because I have a love of Caffiene. LOL

A New World to Explore

I joined a few months ago, but for personal reasons, didn't do anything with my profile.

Last night, I decided to do something with it... so here I am. I've already made a few friends here, and got Raved even.

I'm looking forward to exploring a bit and seeing what I can do around here.
