Live music's future in Kaneva?

I write for a group blog of Second Life residents at a place called SLOG (heh it writes its own jokes). One my latest posts is about the possibility that Kaneva's structure (web + 3D relationships) might be highly valuable for the armies of live musicians that perform regularly inside of Second Life.

Purging of Kaneva Friends

Okay, so. In the beginning, we had this mad-rush-to-rave-and-add-friends thing going on so we could all get into the 3D Kaneva. Kinda shallow, sure, but hey. We are like that. And also, it apparently didn't work. I had only 38 raves and got into the 3D world prior to the open beta.

So. Most of the comments and raves and friend requests were automated, and I've had enough stuff in my profile that says, hey, if you're reading this-- I mean *actually* reading this and comment appropriately, I'll pay attention to you.

I'm going to blow away my friends list entirely EXCEPT the following: anyone from Second Life, and anyone who commented who showed that they weren't a bot and actually read a profile. Why? This friends list carries over in world and will be way to unmanageable and without some honest meaning. Nothing personal.

If you do want to play and learn about the Saijo City project, or if you are afraid I might be accidentally deleting you, comment on this blog post. (Again, if you are an SLer, and your icon is a good clue for me, you're fine.)

I'll probably deal with this when I get back from New York, where I'm speaking at Virtual Worlds 2007.

Yes, I'm on Second Life, too

I see some other avatars out there, and some have asked me about mine. Yes, I'm on Second Life, as Spin Martin. I run 4.5 island sims (no small task), and they make up the peninsula of Saijo. One of the sims is combat enabled, well, if your city was ripped in half by an earthquake and fire and then the old government built a wall, you'd be pretty itchy with the trigger finger. But you'll learn more about that later. Meanwhile, say hi when the grid's open. Especially if you want to continue the story here on Kaneva.

Hey. I'm Spin.

I'm the storyteller. I live in a place called Saijo City-- it's a fictional place, but a place that exists inside a lot of different virtual worlds. In reality, it's mutating to be an uber comic book of sorts, as well as a bunch of animated shorts that will someday be morphed into something bigger.

Spin! Where ya been? lol I signed up in October to Kaneva and it has been a bit lonely .. although I haven't given it too much time. @debbienboo: well, some have said that kaneva is Second Life + MySpace.I'm not in Kaneva yet to make fair comparisons. It might be better it might be worse. But the cool thing about ALL of this stuff... how close have you ever come to making something that resembles a video game world?The world's changing, and that's kinda kick ass, knowhatImean?
