Mything Time Prologue
Prologue
My name is Jon Nova and in most respects I suppose I’m no different to anyone else you may know. I’m 50 years old, balding and a little overweight for my five feet seven inch height. I work for a small local flower shop which has an InterFlora franchise as a delivery driver. I have a pretty ordinary life; I own my home in a small town on the Durham coast in the North East of England where I live with my wife Jane, and two children, Gordon and Lucy. I fly radio controlled helicopters, play guitar and draw a little but that’s about it. For years my dreams were like myself, pretty ordinary. Lately however they have begun to be a little bizarre. I have decided to share my dreams with you.

Mything Time Chapter 1
Accelerated time is hot man!
This time was the worst yet.. I woke up with a stinking headache and I felt hot, well actually, I should say my head felt hot, sweaty. The rest of my body in fact felt ok. Maybe the dreams are having an effect on me as here I am starting at the end and working backwards.. Let me get this right. About a year ago this May I started getting a buzzing sound in my ears, ringing sounds too and the occasional headache. I visited the doctor a couple of months ago and he could find nothing wrong so he referred me to the hospital for checks. The consultant also could find nothing amiss and after a full bank of hearing tests determined I had partial hearing loss in both ears but maybe nothing other than age.. I'm 50 years old and in my earlier days spent a lot of time at gigs and other ear destroying pleasures in life. So, maybe it's no surprise I've lost a little of my hearing. Anyhow.. I was given an appointment for an M.R.I. scan and am still waiting on results. It was about this time the dreams started, well no that's not right.. It was about this time I started to be aware that dreams were lasting a long time, I mean, sleeping time say 10 minutes.. dream story lasting half a day! I know much has been written/said about the nature of dreams, and how, a dream that seems to last a long time, may take place in seconds or even fractions of a second in reality. I am not trying to contradict any of that in fact I believe it to be a fact! I have dozed lightly for moments at a time knowing I have to get up for work and been acutely aware of the time passing according to my bedside clock.. for these snatched moments of extra sleep however I have had dreams that unfold long stories.. When I remember these dreams, which I usually do, and I re-run them in my mind they can go on for a very long time. Thinking at my fastest pace about the story that is the dream I cannot complete the process any quicker than whatever time the story takes to play out (if that makes any sense) yet, the original dream/story originally took a second or two for example to be dreamt! I have this theory... Time as we understand it is supposed to be linear that is it marches forward with a past we can (sometimes) remember, a present we experience live (as it happens) and a future we can only (with imagination) speculate about. Time is also supposedly linked to gravity. That is mass.. for example.. time passes at one speed for an observer on Earth but the farther away from Earth a second observer travels (especially if travelling away at high speed) the slower the same time will pass for him (relative to the first observer) anyhow I probably have not got that exactly right I'm no scientist and am open to anyone who wants to put it correctly (enough has been written about this) the point is time supposedly goes at one speed for us here on Earth. The theory... I think whilst our bodies are normally subject to this set speed of time our thoughts... given the right conditions, are not! I think when you dream (or day-dream) a part of your mind can actually be in accelerated time! The dream that seems to be about events (the story) that takes place over a long period of time actually is covering that period of time. Back in our waking reality however possibly only a few seconds or minutes have passed! This morning I woke up at 7:30 am looked at the clock groaned a bit and realizing it was Sunday turned over and decided to have a well earned lie-in.. For some reason I just could not drift off again only managing a few paltry seconds or so before my eyes would snap open again and be drawn to the clock.. It was during the last cat-nap I had the dream. Nothing at all remarkable about the dream, run of the mill pseudo reality story about a day at work and some of the pitfalls and pleasures I come across while delivering flowers for InterFlora. The day was mostly uneventful in the dream but it was full of detail and went on for a very long time... in fact it felt like a whole real day.. I was even aware at several points that this was a dream I was having and strayed away from the main story on occasion to congratulate myself on the seeming fact that I was at least getting the nice long lie-in I wanted! I eventually woke up, feeling hot and with a stinking headache. I focused my eyes on the clock.. I had been asleep for less than a minute! I think my body trundled along this morning in normal time while my brain.. well the part that dreams, had that day-long dream! I think time was accelerated to make it all fit into the 40 or so seconds I was asleep! Think I'm crazy? well hell I don't blame you! I often think so myself.. but I can't shake the feeling that our brain is not fooled at all about the rules of time we blindly adhere to and when we sleep, when its let out to play, it messes with time and probably wonders why we don't..

Mything Time Chapter 2
Chords of accelerated time
Everyone has a photographic memory.. Yes it's true.. They do. The thing is not everyone can access the photo's. Everything you look at, touch, feel, taste, hear, in fact every experience you input into your body is stored. When you dream you can often access this information and when hypnotised information you thought you never had can be revealed. For example.. Hypnotism has been used by Law Enforcement to recover information from a subject about a crime, or an accident etc. The subject has been hypnotised and while under the 'fluence' has yielded information not remembered previously such as a car involved in a hit and run incident. This information can be extremely accurate.. license number, colour and make of the car, dents and scrapes and even personalised details like those fluffy dice hanging by a string from the rear view mirror! How is this possible? Well.. that second or two that the witness views the car results in a movie or a series of snapshots being stored in their mind just as effective as if it had been shot in full colour, slow motion, high definition film! The information is all stored in the brain but is not cluttering up your normal conscious mind.. With training this information can be accessed, viewed, slowed down, run backwards/forwards or freeze-framed at a particular moment and scrutinised at leisure! Hypnosis can lever this information from a subjects mind too.. and in dreams this information, though sometimes in a disjointed fashion can also be accessed. What has any of this got to do with chords and accelerated time? Well.. Previously I wrote about dreams being run in accelerated time so they fit into sometimes just moments of sleep. Well I tried an experiment. The experiment: I have been playing the guitar for many years.. I'm not particularly good but play for my own pleasure so I don't really care. What used to really annoy me though is the fact that when learning a new song that had a chord variation I was not familiar with I would have to look up the chord (in a book I have) and learn it, memorise it and finally incorporate it into the new song. The trouble is this.. there are bloody pages upon pages full of these chords! I have to find the chord among all of the others and then commit it to memory.. The chords are in a graphical format showing finger position on a diagram of the frets and strings. I sat for a while before bed time and started to flick through the first dozen or so pages full of these chords. Not trying to memorise them but just glancing at the pages letting my mind and eyes just taking a snap-shot of each page. After putting down the book and before retiring to my bed I closed my eyes and tried to remember all that I had seen. Apart from remembering some of the chords I had viewed (and being quite pleased with that) I realised these were only a few of the total number of chords. I also knew that having viewed the pages all of the chords had been seen and therefore recorded by my brain. I retired for the night with the intention of deliberately trying to dream of these pages as many times as I could. At first my dreams stubbornly refused to be about the chords. After a few false starts I finally started to view these pages in my dream.. I studied the pages very carefully and as predicted they were exactly as I had viewed them in the waking world! In my dream I stayed on each page and refused to move on until I could clearly remember the finger positions of each chord. I occasionally (in the dream) even picked up my guitar and practiced these chords (and just like in reality it sometimes took several attempts to get them right) All of this seemed to take several hours while I dreamed and rightly so as there was a lot of information to take in and I needed to commit it all to memory so I would never need to look up these particular chords again. To be truthful several times in the dream I found myself getting quite bored and almost lost focus a few times but managed to hold on. Would you believe it? natures call woke me just before I was finished and I had to go to the toilet! I had been asleep only about 20 minutes! On my return to sleep try as I might I could not get back into the dream so gave up and moved on. The next day I was eager to try out the new chords and much to my kids dismay I picked up my guitar before even thinking about breakfast! I tried to remember the new chords and to my disappointment could only remember a few of them.. I ate breakfast. Later that day I decided to pick up my guitar again just for a bit strum (I do this now and then just because I like the feeling of relaxation it gives me) After a while I picked up a few song sheets and started playing what I found.. As I played some tunes I knew already and some new to me I came across some of the chords I had tried to learn in my sleep and they were there! right there when I needed them! only twice did I have to look up a chord in the book and neither chord was a one I had dreamed about! I sat later and just played chord after chord in no particular order and everyone I had dreamed about I knew already. The several hours worth of dream learning squeezed into about 20 minutes had worked! I am more convinced than ever that the mind is not restrained by the normal view and laws of time and can manipulate it at will.. The possible applications are mind staggering.
