The Weaver

My life is but a weaving between my Lord and me. I cannot choose the colors. He worketh steadily.

Oftimes He weaveth sorrow: and I in foolish pride forget He sees the upper, and I the underside. Not til the loom is silent

and the shuttles cease to fly, shall God unroll the canvas and explain the reason why.

The dark threads are as needful in the Weaver's skillful hand, as the threads of gold and silver in the pattern He has planned.

Grandma, What's a Cowboy? "Grandma,what do cowboys do?" My little grandson asked, "Cept ride buckin'horses, And rope cows that run real fast?" His questions set me thinkin' How I'd tell him what they do, 'Cause I'd taken it for granted, That he already knew. For his grandpa is a cowboy, And has been all his life, So I guess I figured it was plain, Since I'm a cowboy's wife. "Well," I said, "Cowboys get up early While the day is still brand new. They build a pot of coffee, And plan out what they'll do. "cause cowboys don't just rope and ride, Like on television shows, And there's more to bein' a cowboy Than followin' rodeos. "They biuld corrals, and fix old fence, Haul salt and posts and hay. Sometimes they drive their pickup truck Hundreds of miles a day. "They shoe the horses that they ride, Keep'em watered and well fed, Stay up with heifers havin' calves When they'd rather be in bed. "Sometimes they have to sleep In a bedroll on the ground, When they're out gatherin' range cattle, And some of them aren't found. "Then the only sounds he hears Are his pony chompin' grass, Or his cowdog growlin' softly, When some night critter wanders past. "An old cyote's sernade, That he's learned to enjoy, 'Cause they have kept him company, Since he was just a boy. "Bone weary, he'll come home, Then go to help a friend, Get back in time to grab a bite, Then start his work again. "So you see,my darling frandson, Cowboys do a lot. Some things they've been taught." His young face seemed so serious, As I tried to explain What it is that gives a cowboy His special claim to fame. "It's hard work, ain't it,Grandma, To be a cowboy man? But that's what I'm gonna be when I'm big!" And out the door he ran. I stood there for a moment, Recalling what I'd said, Then smiled and tried to picture The thoughts whirling through his head. And I found it reasuring That there's young ones coming on, Who'll keep cowboy tradition, When this generation's gone.
