II Chron. 7:14 says, "If my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray and forsake their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will heal their land." I can remember growing up in church going to what was called "Prayer Meeting" on Thursday nights. Every service had a prayer. We prayed in the beginning, in the middle, prior to the preacher's sermons, after the preacher's sermon and again at the closing of the service. My church toke serious the admonishment to "pray without ceasing." Why did we pray so much? The church believed that there was power in prayer. They literally thought things would change because of it. Looking back in retrospect Prayer did change things! I am living proof it changed me. I often say that the mothers, deacons and even some of the preachers back then did not have degrees from a University or College however; they earned a degree in Kneeology. They knew how to pray. They knew how to talk to the Father and equally as important they allowed the Father to speak back to them; that is prayer! I want to encourage you to earn your degree in Kneeology. Take time out and speak to Father and let the Father speak to you because there is power in Prayer. In 2 Chronicles 7:14 we are told that if we humble ourselves and pray, turn from our wicked ways we will hear from heaven and our land will be healed. Looking at the world today, I would say we need our land healed. According to the recent statistic released by the government over 4 million people are out of work, over 500,000 lost their jobs last month alone. The average time to gain employment is about 12 months with only 26 weeks of unemployment. Let's earn our degrees by not worrying, refraining from both doubt and fear. Edwin L. Cole stated "The place of agreement is the place of power." It is a basic key to the Kingdom of God. There is great power in agreeing with God and His Word. Let's see the power of prayer. The good news is there is open enrollment. You can start praying now and help bring change we all can believe in.

Do you need to tap into an intimate line of communication with God? The Bible instructs us to cast all our cares to God in prayer, making our requests known to Him with an attitude of thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6). We are to request what we need and then trust Him to meet our needs. As we do that, God acts - imparting to us His peace, and providing all that is beneficial for our eternal good. The power of prayer is immeasurable - and the more we reach out to God in intimate communication through prayer, the more we experience His transforming peace. The peace of God that comes through prayer is one of the most valuable assets and gifts He gives us. It is a peace that transforms how we think. It enables us to answer calamity with calm reason, to see order in chaos, and to know the best direction to pursue. By reaching out to God in prayer, we combat fears with faith. We experience God's presence with us -- an ally that is more powerful than any foe! His Holy Spirit girds us up, enabling us to function to the maximum of our ability and beyond. I encourage people to experience the power of prayer and the calming effect it brings throughout the day. When are good times to pray? ALL THE TIME! But at the very least, I recommend praying at these times: Each morning when you awake. Morning prayer allows you to begin the day offering yourself to the Lord. As you greet the Lord in morning prayer, you are acknowledging His sovereignty over your life -- believing in Him to guide, protect, and inspire you throughout the day. During the course of the day. Whether you are a homemaker, work outside the home, or go to school, there will be a myriad of circumstances in which you will find yourself needing the peace of God that prayer brings. There is no better way to handle challenging moments than to call on God to guide your actions, thoughts and words. Upon returning home for the evening. I encourage you to take a moment at some point to thank God for protecting yourself and your family. Ask Him to bring peace to your home surroundings for the evening, and to assist you and other family members in releasing any negative "remains of the day." Before going to sleep. While everyone sleeps, not everyone feels the benefits of a good night's sleep. That is because often, even when the body is resting, the soul is not...it is a bundle of anxieties and insecurities. Praying before going to sleep, and asking God to empty your mind of anxiety and worry, promotes genuine rest for both the body and the soul. Remember -- any time is the "right time" to activate the power of prayer - your intimate line of communication to God!

"Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit." - James 5:13-18 (NKJV) What is prayer? Prayer is fundamentally a two-way communication between a believer and God. In the devotion scripture for today, James is urging us that in spite of our circumstances, regardless of the economic crisis, recession, and job layoffs that we are presently dealing with, we are to live our lives "facing" God in prayer. The Will of God can sometimes be challenging. Often times, we have a hard time discerning what the Will of God is for our lives. The only true way to find God's Will is by having a prayer life. We will notice at some point in our lives, we will face times in which we are discouraged and hopeless because our future seems so unclear and uncertain. Life may be falling apart as a result of our own wrong decisions or lack of prayer. Sometimes the Lord will allow suffering to help accomplish His Will which in turn gets our attention. James says "Is any of you suffering?" He ask this question because he want us to know that arguing is not going to help. Neither is being upset or walking around sad and depressed. James says to pray during these times because he understands that prayer has power. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. If we crave to encompass an effective and powerful prayer life, it is a necessity to cultivate an attitude of boldness. Elijah was bold and prayed earnestly because he knew that his prayer was about to meet its power. This is not the time to turn your back on God because there is still power in prayer. Prayer heals. Prayer delivers. Prayer breaks the bonds that hold us. Prayer guides. Prayer conquers the adversary. Prayer grants gladness in times of suffering. Prayer responds with results even when we don't expect them. Prayer comforts. Prayer establishes. So today I challenge you to let your prayer meet its power.
