Say Goodbye to a Soldier
I had to say goodbye today,
To a very dear friend.
He is moving on to protect the world,
I should be glad,
But goodbye is bittersweet.
Curl into his arms,
and whisper the farewell song.
Hold back the tears,
As not to show,
How much it hurts to say goodbye.
Write I cannot,
For a soldier has a duty.
Call I cannot,
To bring back those tender memories.
A farewell of sweet sadness,
A farewell of pride and joy.
How can I show you how much I care,
Without straining on the words.
I'll miss the tender conversations,
All the laughter,
Fun,
And joy.
But this is a farewell of a soldier,
Bound and destined to say goodbye.
