downloaded and messed around with realmcrafter. building zones is easier since camera is already there and now black screens.

day 18: torque
watched torque demos today and even tried to buy an indie license to mess around with and compare it to kaneva. they wouldn't accept my credit card. so, kaneva>torque imo.

day 16: Christmas eve cold
got a runny nose and pressure between eyeballs. made some improvements on human model then took a nap.

day 15: more blender
2.4 was released today. spending my time fiddling with it. also, found a great resource in the blender model repository. paid for and trying to download chatworld assets. thing keeps refusing to start. have this happen with 2 other assets. hope i get refund if i never successfully download it.

day 14: 2 week review
i just keep getting unexpected and unpredictable results from the kaneva editor. i blame it on iffy mesh.xml support in the engine. things don't scale right and weird errors occur with minor tweaks. at this point, i really think someone with some python scripting experience take a look at how the 3ds/blender import/export works and how the 3ds/kaneva import/export works and create a blender/kaneva import/export python script.

got fustrated with that and worked on my humanoid models. humanoid because i have decided if i can't make them human that i will just one not quite human playable race.

day 13: scale
having issues with scale of models from different sources. basically, between 3ds max, blender, the Ogre XML, converter, and kaneva. the scales are all different not to mention their locations. ending up having to pull everything into blender and then pull it into kaneva. yeah, i know thats how greg did it with 3ds max in the beginner tutorials. everything placed out in the one before bringing it to the other.

somehow, i thought i would just throw everything together in the gameport view of kaneva but that just didn't work out very well. lesson learned.

day 12: village zone
i had some models made and they look good so i put together a small village zone to get a feel for how they look together. posted in gallery. i will probably have to spread it out a bit more then try and get them into kaneva. then, i will have one functional game zone out of the 3 that i have planned. of course, i still need to texture, uvmap, etc...

day 11: watching videos
didn't feel like messing with blender or kaneva today so mostly downloaded a few tutorials; making of gorilla paintball 1, mostly brief interviews, greg's 2 basic tut videos again because i feel i don't the kaneva engine at all, then a 3 videos on blender. greybeard has an excellent one on UV mapping.

day 10: art assets
i am working through the blender tutorials but i also hired out some work for art assets. i have listed the artists websites in the graphics part of the augmenton forums. i want to make clear that i respect intellectual property and will only use those assets that i am reasonably certain i have legal right to.

day 9: breaking kaneva
spent most of the morning breaking kaneva by loading huge meshes. afternoon, i made a dice cube with blender. have contracted for some architecture and weapons models but i still want to be able produce the easy stuff myself. not sure what i am going to do for character models. have to go back and read kaneva pdf on the character models again.

day 8: importing to kaneva
probably seems i am i bit slow but it took me all day to import one terrain from blender to kaneva exactly how i wanted it. after that, added some more info to the game concept forums. have now started to sift out the stuff that can be easily implemented in kaneva. look for the implementation thread under kaneva in this channel to see more about how that is going.

day 7: review
found myself mostly reviewing stuff. with my short dev time, i have decided to commit to buying and using models made by others. turbosquid seems to have a good variety. i have 15 weeks to come up with a game, so this is my plan: 3 zones, 1 village zone, 1 arena, 1 arcade with 1 or more minigames in it. 1 possibly 2 characters. keeping the persistent character concept and offline mode. these my hard and fast goals. everything else i mention in my forums is still up in the air. if its supported by the current menu items in the kaneva engine then i will do it. if it requires scripts then i will probably defer it to an expansion or a future game.

day 6: blender->kaneva
had the hardest time figuring out what i was supposed to do. i have detailed the steps of installing all the right software in the forums. hope it helps the next person.

day 5: terrain
spend this morning working with blender and making terrain models. i saved them all even the ones i don't like. spend an hour or two with the kaneva game editor trying to figure out what ideas of mine can be easily implemented and which ones require more scripting than i can reasonably accomplish for April.
