Johnson-Ferry Road. Buford Highway. US 78. What do they have in common? They make your commute impossible because they change their natures when they hit county boundaries. Roy Barnes GRTA has been ignored by Gov. Sonny Perdue because his supporters didnt want an Outer Loop. Fine. No Outer Loop. But unless someone takes responsibility for your multi-county commute (and most of us have one) were all stuck on the same freeway. (And speaking of stuck have you noticed Georgia 400 north of Cumming lately?) County goverrnments are at the mercy of local developers. They see traffic and want to build next to it. The trouble is they all want to put in curb cuts, lots of curb cuts, and nothing turns traffic into a snarl like curb cuts. The only way to stop this is by appealing to a higher authority, like a statewide agency, which can act as a bad cop because its sole job is to make sure you get to work before lunch, and home before midnight. Thats what the GRTA was designed to be. And if you see one of these smiling faces in your next traffic jam, take the time to remind them of it. Neither of you is going anywhere anyway. Its not a choice between small government and big government. Its a choice between planning and anarchy. And what we have now is anarchy. Think about it next time youre late for your job in Alpharetta. Its going to get worse a lot worse.

Before you drive home, take a look at: http://www.georgia-navigator.com/ Useful site to see the traffic flow in and around Atlanta and Georgia.

Perhaps the powers that be reall don't care if we get from here to there. The problem can be solved - but not without pain, a lot of political pain. That is pain current leadership wants to avoid.
