Defining the WorDs < Back

Many things can be said about the Best Kept Secrets. Before any evaluation of that phrase is given, let us first decipher what it means.

Secret as defined by Encarta Dictionary’s North America English version is as follows:

Adjectives

1.      not widely known – known only by a few people and intentionally withheld from general knowledge

2.      undercover – working or operating without the knowledge of the general public

3.      unadmitted – acting or feeling in a particular way without admitting to it

4.      private and secluded – known to very few people and consequently quiet and secluded

5.      secretive – tending by nature to keep things secret (informal)

6.      mysterious – mysterious and often beyond common understanding

Noun

1.      something ensuring success – a little-known technique, approach, or piece of information that is the key to success in an endeavor

So what is the Best Kept Secret?

While it would appear to be a word defining something tangible, a secret is the intangible portion of its whole. It is a clandestine meeting, a covert operation, an underground culture, an undisclosed amount, the hush-hush cloak-and-dagger operatives of the sly stealth walker. It is the confidence held between lovers, the restricted space that creates curiosity, yet remains private. It is restricted to the riddled enigma of the skeletons in the closet that rattle and prattle in underhanded whispers, surreptitiously announcing yet another unanswered question.

Welcome

Well said, Sk. I can not add my words on this subject, I battle with my own unanswered questions.
